One Coronation Street actress looks completely unrecognisable 27 years after leaving the ITV cobbles behind. Chloe Newsome found fame as Vicky McDonald – the second actress to play her after Helen Warburton in 1990 – from 1991 until 1998. Married to Steve McDonald, Vicky became embroiled in a court case with Steve determined to get her inheritance to fund his business ventures.
She soon fled to Brighton to set up her own restaurant, remarrying to an off-screen character called Robert. And in real life, actor Chloe has also been going from strength to strength. In a new snap, she was seen with platinum blonde hair, rocking a long pink skirt and red-and-white striped jumper as she enjoyed a spot of rollerskating. Donning red strappy sandals and a leopard-print fleece jacket, Chloe – now 48 – beamed at the camera.
Since leaving Corrie, she’s gone on to do film work, including 2005’s The Jealous God and 2011’s Lost Christmas. In 2020 she landed the role of Nell Reeves in a BBC radio adaptation of Agatha Christie classic The Lie.
But finding acting work hasn’t always been easy, and Chloe was forced to take on a temporary office job to fund herself when acting work dried up. She told The Guardian: “I didn't start temping until a couple of years ago when I felt I needed the stability of regular hours and a structured day, but felt too old for bar work.
“I've never been trained to work a switchboard but it really isn't hard and the fact that I'm not shy and don't panic is probably a bonus in this sort of work.
"One of my clients offered me a job and while I was really tempted; particularly by the thought of knowing how much I'd earn in an entire year, I reminded myself that after many years as a self-employed actress, I don't need to change my career."
