The Who's lead singer Roger Daltrey shared the devastating reason why the group could be blocked from carrying out plans for a week's worth of shows at a major UK venue like London's 02 or Royal Albert Hall. The star, who owns a historic home in East Sussex, candidly revealed that he sees touring the USA as a "damn sight easier" than in Britain, before admitting he's also been issued a major warning.
He explained: "I've been ordered by my throat specialist to have a day off after every gig - and [he also warned me]: 'After every three gigs, you have to have two days off because otherwise you will wreck your voice and you will not be able to sing." The topic was raised after Daltrey was asked whether there were any plans to "officially say goodbye" to fans in the UK. He mischievously quipped: "Let's see if we survive this tour first!"
Roger Daltrey added that fans shouldn't give up hope, but that he's "not confident" about the chances of touring Britain as a group.
He revealed: I've got to say, a tour in America is a damn sight easier than a tour in the UK because for some reason or another, the UK has decided to make it as difficult as possible to go from A to B."
The rocker is loyal to Britain, as he's had a home in the same quaint British village for more than half a century now - but logistical issues have frustrated him.
"I really enjoyed the last tour that we did, but it was a strange one. We played a lot [but] we had an insurance problem... and couldn't play some of the more classic places," he explained.
The singer, who recently finished a UK tour of his own combining classic The Who hits with some of his solo songs, confirmed: "We don't do consecutive shows. We like to do a show and then take a break."
Roger spoke via video link yesterday (May 8) while Pete Townshend made an in person appearance at the Iconic Images Gallery in London's Piccadilly Circus.
It was there that the pair made their bombshell announcement about a US "farewell" tour to "say goodbye to their North American fans" after 60 years in the business.
They will begin the tour on August 16 in Florida and end it on September 28 with a grand finale in Las Vegas, while pre-sale tickets will be made available via The Who's website from May 13.
